HUNT IN TURKEY

Turkey, forming the bridge between Europe and Asia, has developed a sound system of wildlife management through which many of the species of this region can still be hunted. Much of Turkey is mountainous and some areas are quite remote and difficult to reach, making hunting in this exciting and historic land very interesting, challenging, but also unique. Turkey offers the discriminating sportsman a rich variety of hunting opportunities with big bezoar ibex as well as the huge Anatolian wild boar being the two main species.

Wild Boar Live in the Mountains

There are many wild boar in Turkey, mainly because the Muslim religion forbids the eating of pork. Therefore male wild boar can grow very large, up to 300 kg with access to rich feeding opportunities all year round. Male wild boar may live up to 15 years of age and can grow long tusks up to 30 cm. Wild boar in our area live in the mountains, where there is extensive forest and bush. The wild boar are mainly nocturnal, although they can be found feeding in early morning or late afternoon depending on the region and season. The rutting season starts around November and lasts about one month until December. Only during this season do the big boars join the herds of sows and young. Mature males commonly live alone and form a territory of their own. The best time to hunt the biggest old boars is from February to October.

The Anatolian bezoar ibex is a species of ibex only found in Turkey and the billies have the longest horns and the largest body size among all ibex species in the world. Our hunting areas, the Taurus Mountains, are known for the longest and highest quality of horns compared to other areas in Turkey. Horns have been recorded to grow up to 55 inches in a few extraordinary cases in the past, although our trophy average over the last few years has been over 45 inches. We harvest a dozen or so of very big trophies between 48 to 53 inches each hunting season also. Bezoar ibex can be hunted from mid October to end of March. The most efficient time to hunt is from the start of November to mid January. The ibex will be rutting from mid November to the end of December.

100% Success Rate

The Anatolian red deer is one of the biggest free-ranging wild deer species in Europe and can be found throughout the country of Turkey with healthy populations. A mature male weighs about 300-350 kgs and has antlers that grow very large with over 10 kgs of antler weight and up to 24 points. The areas we hunt have very good populations of deer and very high trophy quality. Best time for this hunt is during the roar (the red stag rut) from mid September through to mid October.

The Anatolian chamois is one of the most prestigious and rarest chamois species in the world. We organise chamois hunts in northeastern Turkey from the start of October to the end of March. The chamois rut in November and this is also the best month to hunt them if snow conditions are not too severe.

Our outfitter in Turkey has maintained a 100% success rate over the years and continues to organise very successful hunts every season. In order to keep the quality of our areas at the highest level, we only offer a very limited amount of ibex licenses every year.

Furthermore, Turkey has a well developed tourism infrastructure and an increasing flow of hunting tourists. Istanbul is one of the most fascinating and historic cities in the world, and well worth the visit. A great number of different sightseeing and touring activities can easily be combined with your hunting adventures in other parts of Turkey as well.
